Kalinga Salinok and Bayo winners announced

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Winners of the recently-concluded Salinok and Bayo contest by the Office of the Provincial Indigenous People Mandatory Representative in partnership with the National Commission of Indigenous People were announced with P210,000.00 in total cash prizes given.

According to the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga, the winner for Salinok is the Municipality of Balbalan bringing home P 50,000.00, while for Bayo, the Municipality of Tinglayan receiving the same amount as prize.

Special awards with their corresponding cash prizes were awarded to other Local Government Units (LGUs).

For Salinok, Tabuk City won the “Best in Choreography Award” with a cash prize of P30,000, “Best in Chanting Award” won by the Municipality of Pasil with a cash prize of P 20,000, “Best in Accompaniment Award” the Municipality of Lubuagan with a cash prize of P10,000, and “Best in Props Award” the Municipality of Tinglayan with a cash prize of P10,000.

On the other hand, for Bayo’s special awardees, “Best in Chanting” was won by the Municipality of Balbalan with a cashprize of P20,000, “Best in Choreography” the Municipality of Pasil with a cash prize of P10,000, “Best in Props” is Tabuk City with a cash prize of P5,000, and the “Best in Attire Awardee” the Municipality of Lubuagan with a cash prize of P5,000.

Salinok is a coined term for Salidummay and Saynok meaning to sing and act. It is performed through singing and dancing at the same time. Bayo, meantime, is a traditional way of rice pounding using mortar and pestle.

The competitions were held in the LGUs’ respective municipalities and judging was done by a roving team from the office of the Provincial IPMR. This is due to the restrictions brought about by the pandemic.
