Kalinga still has zero election-related violence

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Though majority of the areas in Kalinga are under red or ‘areas of grave concern’ this election, there has been no election-related violence documented since the start of the election period in January 2022.

Police Colonel Peter Tagtag Jr., the Kalinga Police Provincial Director, disclosed that based on the Directory for Intelligence of the PNP, all the municipalities and the city of Tabuk were categorized as red on the election hotspots except for Tanudan that was placed under orange category.

Tagtag explained that the categorization of these areas under red or ‘areas of grave concern’ are based on the previous election-related incidents during the 2010, 2013, and 2016 elections and that it is also due to the influence of the Communist Terrorist Group.

“The people of Kalinga should not be alarmed because yung mga previous na incidents at data ang basis nila, hindi ‘yung present na situation,” he said, adding that the province had been peaceful since the start of election period in January.

“As of now, wala pa po tayong election-related violence incidents na nangyari within the election period. At based doon sa observation din natin … very silent naman yung mga nag-file ng candidacy. Mino-monitor din namin yung mga rally, may mga reported na nagka-sagutan pero wala namang physical na violence na nangyari,” Tagtag explained.

Meanwhile, the Kalinga Police Provincial Director mentioned that there were 4 gun ban policy violators that the police arrested in the province. One is from Tabuk City, another is from Rizal, and two are from Tinglayan who were caught with firearms during a marijuana eradication.
