Kalinga suffers over P386M damages in infra, agriculture due to Typhoon Egay

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Despite not recording any casualties when Super Typhoon Egay hit the Cordillera region with incessant and heavy rains, agriculture and infrastructure in Kalinga were not spared from its wrath.


A press release of the provincial government Saturday, July 29 stated that the province sustained over P386 million in infrastructure and agricultural damages.


In infrastructure, the initial assessment made by the Department of Public Works and Highways – Kalinga accounted for P322,745,564 damages.

Destroyed structures include slope protection, farm-to-market roads, national roads, footbridge, and flood control drainage.


As to agriculture, the initial report of the Provincial Agricultural Office revealed damages to rice amounted to P27,053,262; corn - P32, 531, 376; and high-value crops - P4,475,940.


These numbers are expected to increase as reports are still being consolidated.


As to houses destroyed, 3 were totally wrecked in Lubuagan while 104 residences in Rizal, Pinukpuk, Balbalan, Tabuk City, Pasil, Tanudan, and Tinglayan were partially damaged.


Two schools meantime were reported partially dismantled in Tanudan and Tinglayan.


For families affected, the province listed 801 families or 3,939 individuals.

On July 29, Governor James Edduba received financial assistance amounting to P5 million from President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., during the latter’s visit in Cagayan.


Provincial Information Officer Dionica Legasi said financial assistance will be provided to typhoon-affected individuals in the province.


Apart from said aid, the province has already readied 8,449 food packs and 2,106 non-food items for distribution.


The provincial government likewise acquired calamity assistance from Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) which include 700 food packs and 10,000 bottled water.
