Kalinga to host Ms. Earth 2022 pageant’s long gown competition in November

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga province will be hosting the long gown competition of the Miss Earth 2022 pageant to be held on November 18-19, 2022 at the Kalinga Sports Center.

This was confirmed by Provincial Tourism Officer and Local Cultural Affairs Officer Lorraine Ngao-i on Tuesday, September 6.

Miss Earth pageant is one of the major international beauty pageants along with Miss World, Miss International and Miss Universe aimed at promoting environmental awareness, conservation, and social responsibility.

In an interview, Ngao-i, who presented the proposal of the Miss Earth Carousel during a meeting, said they agreed of the hosting of one of the events of the pageant since its objective suits the bid of the province to promote sustainable tourism.

Apart from that, putting the province in the limelight through the pageant will not only popularize its tourism offers, but also introduce Kalinga culture and its weaving industry.

“...Ms Earth, since it’s a beauty pageant with a cause, I recommended and supported it since we are after sustainable tourism and instead of spending government funds in so-so promotions na little impact naman, why not accept yung Miss Earth since international level sya at maliit lang ang cash sponsorship,” the provincial tourism officer said.

Creation of Technical Working Group

Ngao-i relayed the provincial government unit is now creating a technical working group that will take charge of the preparation of the event.

As part of the initial agreement, the provincial LGU is responsible for the selection of judges. Selected judges will also take the role of being the minor sponsors.

As for Miss Earth’ Carousel Production, those involved will be responsible for media exposure through a ten-second video exposure promoting Kalinga with the Miss Earth delegates during the finals which will be streamed online and aired on A2Z Channel.

They will likewise be asked to feature Kalinga in their social media accounts.

Meantime, Ngao-i informed that the organization already sent the draft memorandum of agreement to the province, and once approved, it will be sent back to the Ms. Earth organization for the final signing of MOA in Metro Manila.
