Kennon Road opens to inbound travelers

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – Kennon Road is now open after its temporary closure on April 09, 2022, due to a rockfall incident.

The historic road, however, is only opened one way for inbound or Baguio-bound motorists, which was made effective April 11.

In its issued public advisory, the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force Kennon said the road reopening is in response to the request of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to manage the traffic situation due to tourist influx.

According to the joint task force, vehicles exceeding the five tons (gross tonnage) limit shall be prohibited to pass through Kennon Road.

The JIATF Kennon further asked motorists to drive safely, strictly adhere to traffic and parking rules, and maintain a speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour particularly along curvatures.

In case of inclement weather or detected ground shaking or earthquake with or without aftershock/s which may trigger landslides and rockfalls, the Municipality of Tuba, through the Tuba MPS, in coordination with the DPWH-CAR and OCD-CAR, shall immediately close Kennon Road until public safety is guaranteed.
