NPA killed in Balbalan is senior citizen from Tabuk City

Balbalan, Kalinga – The recent casualty of the military and Communist Terrorist Group clash in Balbalan is an elderly man from Tabuk City, the 5th Infantry Division disclosed.


The slain rebel was identified as Baliwag ‘Ka Bombo’ Boccol, 67 and a resident of Barangay Nambucayan. He is said to be a member of the Squad Uno of the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Baggas, Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee.


His identity was confirmed by his family.


Boccol’s remains was found by the 50th Infantry Battalion after the armed encounter at Sitio Angod in Barangay Poswoy, Balbalan around 4:00 p.m. on May 3.

It was past 6:00 p.m. of May 4 when the government forces turned over the cadaver to Balbalan Municipal Police Station. Boccol’s body was later brought to a funeral parlor in Tabuk City.


The rebel was described by the people to have a radiant personality before he was recruited in the armed movement, according to the 5th ID.


Meantime, authorities recovered 13 bunkers, M16 rifle, 2 short M16 magazines, backpacks, improvised explosive device detonator, blasting caps, command detonated explosives, and medical kits from the encounter site.
