KPPO expects increase in crime this 2nd quarter

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Crimes in the province is expected to increase this second quarter due to a more relaxed quarantine imposition, the Kalinga Police Chief said.

Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong, Kalinga Police Director, explained that like in the national level, one of the contributory factors on the decline of crimes is the implementation of community quarantine, limiting movement of people in accessing basic necessities and work.

Since the start of pandemic in 2020, the number of crime incidents had remarkably dropped in the province because of the imposition of very strict quarantine measures, unlike in 2021 where quarantine measures are more lenient, he said.

This, he said, is the reason why there is a possibility that criminal activity in the second quarter this 2021 will rise compared to the second quarter of 2020 when Luzon was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine and people were only allowed to go out for necessity.

“Daytoy second quarter, pandemic diay en last year, inggana tatta pandemic. So there’s a possibility nga ag-increase tatta because last year mas strict, tatta na-loosen bassit [iti restriction],” he said.

Data of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office reveals that there is a total of 81 crimes recorded in the province during the 1st quarter, which is lower compared to the 127 recorded for the same period last year.

6 Kalinga towns recorded zero index crimes

Meantime, during this 1st quarter, six municipalities in Kalinga had zero index crimes or crimes committed against a person and property such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, robbery, theft, carnapping and cattle rustling.

These municipalities include Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pasil, Rizal, Tanudan, and Tinglayan.

Tabuk City, on the other hand, had 11 cases reported while Pinukpuk recorded one crime incident.
