La Trinidad to highlight ‘giant twin strawberry shortcake’ during Strawberry Festival

La Trinidad, Benguet – The Guinness World record holder for the biggest strawberry shortcake – La Trinidad in Benguet province plans to feature a giant twin strawberry shortcake at its Strawberry Festival 2023.

The town achieved a world record in 2004 when a cake weighing 9,662.24 kilograms was served to more than 10,000 people.

In 2019, La Trinidad again showcased a giant strawberry cake that measured 1.5 meters high by 1.8 meters wide by 2.5 meters long and weighs 1.6 tons.

This year, the municipal government led by Mayor Romeo Salda “don’t intend to break” their 2004 record as they continue to hold the title. Instead, they will prepare and cook giant twin strawberry shortcake that tourists and locals to feast on.

The mayor already coordinated with the Strawberry Bakers Association in town for the realization of their plan.

The month-long event, he said, will be “a festival of recovery” with the return of big activities that were suspended in the previous years due to the threat of the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Among other much-awaited activities include Battle of the Bands, Mr. and Ms. La Trinidad Strawberry Festival Coronation, Concerts at the Park, Owik Tan Tayao and Multi-Cultural celebrations, Commercial Trade Fair, Duting Tan Dukto, Strawberry Lane and Agro-Fair, and Dongba ni Kabajo.
