Lake Lanas in Bauko, Mt. Province temporarily closes due to drowning incident

Bauko, Mt. Province – With the drowning incident that transpired in Lanas Lake on December 21, the local government unit of Bauko, Mt. Province has decided to suspend all tourism activities in the area through an executive order dated December 23.


The measure was undertaken to address the unfortunate incident and to ‘give primordial consideration to the general welfare and thus firmly committed to ensuring public safety.’


Tourism activities, according to Bauko government will resume once precautionary measures and necessary guidelines will be ‘thoroughly in place’.


As recalled, two individuals were found dead in the area after a boat they were rowing in the middle of said lake capsized on December 21.

The two were identified as Jay Vicente Opag and Mayzon Vicente Batatas. They are both from Kayan West, Tadian.


They were in the area for a picnic with friends when the tragic incident occurred.


PDRRMC Mountain Province said it was the first time that a drowning incident transpired at said tourism site.
