Tayum, Abra – Residents and tourists alike can now roam around Tayum, Abra’s Town Plaza feeling safer as the site has been lit up with P1.8 million worth of solar-powered lamps by the municipal government recently.

As cited by the Philippine Information Agency-Abra, there are 27 solar lamp posts installed in said area.

The project was made possible through the LGU’s Seal of Local Good Governance-Incentive Fund (SGLG-IF) which was awarded to the municipality after being conferred with SGLG, the mother of all awards for LGUs, in 2022 and 2023.

The town which has earned 6 SGLG awards so far earned a P1.8M incentive for the SGLG citations in 2022 and 2023.

Mayor Placido Eduarte Jr., in a statement, explained that the lighting of their town plaza aims to make their community safer and more secure against criminal activities.

“Adu ti maitulong na daytoy nangruna ti pananglaban ti kriminalidad isu nga nag-decide kami nga diay SGLG-incentive fund tayo ket ikabil tayo nga solar street light,” the mayor said.

With its town plaza’s lighting project, Tayum has proven its commitment to using its SGLG incentives for the community’s benefit. Moreover, the municipality has further shown its proper allocation of resources and sustainable financial practices after being reclassified from a 5th to a 1st class municipality by the Department of Finance last year.
