Louisian ranks 6th in June 2023 Architecture board exam

Baguio City, Philippines – Another Louisian has made it to the list of top-performing board examinees in the country.

When the Professional Regulation Commission released the results of the June 2023 Architect Licensure Exam, Joanna Rose Arconcil, an alumna of Saint Louis University appeared in the list of top notchers.

Having garnered an 83.70% rating, Arconcil ranked 6th among the 2,924 architecture graduates in the Philippines who passed the board exam in June this year.

In a lengthy post last March 2021, Arconcil revealed that Bachelor of Science in Architecture was not her first choice when she was deciding what to take for college.

Her parents suggested she take medical courses but then she thought of enrolling in Civil Engineering. While accomplishing a form she was asked to fill out after qualifying for the Department of Science and Technology scholarship, she, however, wrote Mechanical Engineering.

Then she changed her mind again and was torn between Architecture and Accountancy. Her parents supported the former and she recounted her father saying, “Accountant na nga 'yang ate mo, mag-accountant ka din. Mag-architecture ka na lang ah para maiba naman.”

Having reservations, she still enrolled in BS Architecture at SLU, and five years later, she finished her course as Magna Cum Laude.

From her experience, she noted that grades don’t define people and that it was diligence that brought her that far.

“From the start, hindi ako confident na matalino ako, sinasabi lang ng iba na matalino ako, na anggaling ko daw, kasoooo para sa akin, hindi talaga eh . Nadadala ko lang sa sipag at tiyaga,” she stated.
