Tabuk City, Kalinga – Attorney Errol “Pasiking” Comafay Jr., known as a staunch anti-corruption advocate, pledged to advance his advocacies on good governance, environmental protection, and youth empowerment as he temporarily filled the vacant city council seat.
With the six-month suspension of Tabuk City Mayor Darwin Estrañero imposed by the Office of Ombudsman in connection with the overpriced procurement of medical supplies at the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, Vice-Mayor Dick Bal-o assumed the mayoral seat. As the highest-ranking Sanggunian member, Lucretina Sarol filled the vice mayor position.
The Nacionalista Party, the party to which Sarol is a member, nominated Comafay who was eventually designated as Sangguniang Panlungsod member in an acting position by the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
On Friday, November 17, he was officially sworn in as a member of the city council at the Regional Trial Court Branch 25.
Comafay is filled with gratitude for the Nacionalista Party for trusting and having confidence in him to fill the temporary vacant seat.
Comafay to serve as ‘fiscalizer’
When asked about his plans as a legislator, he told GURU Press Cordillera that he intends to be “fiscalizer” or be the one who would scrutinize the use of the city’s funds and ensure the local government’s transparency ‘so that the public funds will not be wasted on activities which are not actually needed by the residents of Tabuk.’
“In terms of public funds, priority should be given to those who are of more immediate need,” he added.
Establishment of City Library
The now council member likewise eyes the establishment of a city library to provide students, along with those who would like to conduct research and study, access to information they need to enrich their knowledge.
The library, he said, should be wide enough to accommodate the intended recipients, with an environment that is conducive to reading and research.
Solid waste collection in each barangay
To protect the environment, Comafay will push for the implementation of solid waste management at the barangay level.
“It should be the responsibility of the barangay to collect waste and segregation of the waste should be at the level of the barangay so that the garbage truck of the city will only get the residual waste, and those waste that can no longer be recycled can be converted into organic fertilizer so that our sanitary landfill will not be filled up immediately,” explained the council member.
‘Fight against corruption cannot be done by only one person’
Comafay called on his constituents to join him in safeguarding the public funds of the City of Tabuk, stressing that the fight against corruption cannot be done by only one person.
“If the public is involved in the fight of corruption, the public officials will be prevented from misusing public funds,” he added.
Lov. NOT Hon. Acting Councilor
Instead of people referring to him as ‘Hon. Acting Councilor’, Comafay prefers to be called ‘Lov. (short for Lovable) Acting Councilor.’
As to the cases he filed against the city government, will have to handle such.
