Lubo, Tanudan hosts 2024 Indigenous Peoples Month celebration in Kalinga

Tanudan, Kalinga – iTanudans welcomed leaders and guests from the different municipalities and the city in Kalinga for a grand celebration of the province’s culture and heritage on October 16 – 17, 2024 in Lubo.

 

On the said day, the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) in the barangays, the city, and the municipalities in Kalinga along with other officials and communities convened at the Lubo Gymnasium to mark the 2024 Indigenous Peoples Month and the 27th Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act (IPRA) Anniversary.

 

Wednesday, October 16, was the arrival of the participants who were given a ‘padatong’ or arrival rites, while the main program transpired the following day.

 

Among the highlights of the activity is the presentation from the municipal IPMRs and the performances of the youth who used their talents in displaying the tradition and indigenous practices of Kalinga like the ‘sissiwa’ for harvest, job hunting, and others of Tanudan.

 

‘Sissiwa’ is a prayer to ‘Kabunyan’ for a prosperous journey and activity.

 

The event was graced by NCIP-Cordillera Regional Legal Officer Claude Mia Tupeng, provincial officials led by Governor James Edduba who was represented by Attorney Zorayda Mia Wacnang, NCIP – Kalinga Provincial Director Anneleis Mabazza, and the Tanudan officials headed by Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag.

 

The celebration was anchored on the theme: ‘Gimpong we tago, gimpong we kopya: ipatog, dayawon, kan tangkonan takon dida’ (Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge)’.
