Lubuagan intensifies COVID-19 vax campaign to fight misinformation

Updated: Nov 4, 2021

Lubuagan, Kalinga- The Local Government Unit of Lubuagan under the leadership of Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus continues to engage its people in the information education campaign supporting the COVID-19 vaccination efforts of the government.

Lubuagan has been facing problems of misinformation which has negatively influenced the attitude of some, especially the elderly.

Mayor Dickpus said that the personnel from the Municipal Health Office (MHO) are doing their best to encourage iLubuagens to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease, hoping it will make the public be more informed.

“Dagitoy taga MHO tayo piman, kanayon a makita tayo ti IEC da kadagiti babbarangay… because the vaccine is a reward to our constituents. And at the same time, if not a sacrifice, this is an advantage and service to ourselves, our children, our ap-apo, our colleagues, and our municipality,” Mayor Dickpus said.

With the municipality needing 4,816 more individuals from the target priority group to be inoculated, Mayor Dickpus said that it is important to encourage and give factual information to reach their 100 percent target.

Reaching the target according to the mayor is vital for the municipality to eventually ease restrictions for the municipality to divert its focus on coping with the economic losses, dealing with the mental health challenges of those affected, and strengthening its public health capacity.

“Kayat tayo nga ma-vaccine kuma amin tapnu ma-normalize nga talagan ti movement, diay haan dan nga mabutbuteng nu rumwar da for necessities. Narigat ti agkara-lockdown, saanen nga effective if we talk about survival as a municipality,” Mayor Dickpus expressed.

Some senior citizens hesitant to take the jab

The mayor, in an interview, disclosed that several senior citizens or those belonging to the priority group A2 are those needed the IEC at the moment since several are still hesitant to take the jab.

Also, Public Health Nurse Novie Eder informed that while many were eager to line up and do their part at slowing and hopefully ending the pandemic, there are still individuals who are reluctant to be inoculated with the anti-COVID-19 vaccine. She related that the Municipal Health Office continues its IEC for the purpose of encouraging the constituents of what they could benefit from the vaccine.

“Isu ti one of the reasons nga 30.32 percent (of the population) pay lang iti nabakunaan. Adu pay lang ti reluctant nga agpa-vaccine. Isunga iti ikaskasta mi, per barangay kamin nga ag-IEC ket effective met ket didiay nga strategy ta um-umay metten ti tao, umad-ado metten ti um-umay apan agpa-vaccine,” Eder informed.

Eder encouraged those belonging to the eligible population who are still hesitant to take advantage of the vaccine to get inoculated since this is their only weapon against the coronavirus disease, emphasizing that to be vaccinated means not only keeping themselves safe but will protect their families as well.

“Sapay kuma ta umay da agpa-vaccine, para kanyada daytoy a vaccine tapnu ma-protektaran da iti Covid-19 ket daytoy a vaccine tayu ket safe, saan da kuma a mabuteng… (especially) dagitoy vulnerable population kas kuma dagitoy senior citizen, dagitoy nga adult with comorbidities including dagitoy kabbalay dagitoy met lang nga vulnerable population,” Eder expressed.

In Lubuagan, Eder informed that vaccinations are given on daily whenever a vaccine is available, “daily iti vaccination ti Lubuagan. Mapan da idiay RHU or BHF idiay barangay.”

“Umay da kuma ditoy health center. Or nu kayat da nga ipan mi iti bar-barangay da, ipa-schedule da tapnu mapan kami mismo idiay areas nga ayan da,” she further said.

She also reminded that COVID-19 vaccines also help keep one from getting seriously ill even if you get COVID-19.

“Ta uray nu in case nga ma-COVID da, haan a kasdiay a ka-severe iti impact na, at least adda da lang iti mild. At least maiwasan tayo kuma iti death case iti COVID-19. Isunga i-en-encourage mi isuda nga umay,” she explained.
