Lubuagan Mayor Dickpus encourages warming of peace-pacts forged between tribes

Updated: Apr 28, 2022

Lubuagan, Kalinga – Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus has encouraged her people on the warming of Bodong made between tribes in the past, stating that Bodong should not only be reawakened after severance of peace pacts due to unfortunate incidents.

During the pre-Galiged Chi Bodong between Peñarrubia, Abra and Lubuagan on April 23 and 24, 2022 at the Awichon Cultural Village, Dickpus commended the two tribes for reconnecting and warming their Bodong that was crafted in 1960.

The mayor stated that the Bodong between the two tribes made decades ago, setting an example, should be warmed and be reawakened.

“Dagita nga naiun-una a Bodong, dapat dagita iti maiga-Galiged ta haan a maperperdi,” she said.

Dickpus added that it is important to trace the peace pacts made by every tribe’s ancestors. This, she said, is for the descendants to know whom the generations before them had forged a relationship with.

“Tapnu maamwan iti tao nga adda gayam dayta a Bodong tapnu nu adda ma-encounter da nga adda kasta nga umay ditoy ket i-entertain da isuda, tapnu ammu da a kakabsat da gayam … Awan met ketdi iti panunut iti tao a mangdangran kanyada ngem mas isakit da kuma met, i-entertain da kuma met dagita ka-Bodong idi ngem tatta tayo lang a maamwan,” she further said.

The mayor also urged the younger generation to witness and attend such events since they are expected to carry out and continue the peace pact between their tribes.

“Mayat nga i-encourage tayo dagitoy ubbing ket adda da latta kadagitoy kakastoy a banbanag,” she said.

As recalled, the peace pact between Peñarrubia, Abra and Lubuagan, Kalinga was exchanged by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Omnas and Mr. and Mrs. Francisco Saclag in 1960. The relationship between the two tribes started when the people from Abra went to Lubuagan to expand the reach of their business activities.
