Lubuagan police assures safety amidst severance of Lubuagan – Mabongtot tribes peace pact

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

Lubuagan, Kalinga – Authorities in Lubuagan have assured public safety even after the severance of the Bodong between Mabongtot and Lubuagan tribes recently.

The severance of peace pact between the tribes came after the death of John Lumpao of the Mabongtot tribe last July 21, 2022. Lumpao was shot by unidentified assailants at his boarding house in Sitio Tiwod, Barangay Antonio Canao.

In an interview with Lubuagan Police Chief Alexander Malasi, he conveyed that the peace and order in the municipality is so far under control.

Pol. Captain Malasi added that the community, the barangay officials, elders, the LGU, and other line agencies are working closely with the police to ascertain that constituents in the municipality and commuters who are passing through Lubuagan will not be put in danger.

“Haan kami agsarsardeng tapnu maisubli iti linak ken talna ditoy Lubuagan ken nagbaetan iti Lubuagan ken Mabongtot,” he assured.

On August 15, elders and tribe members of Mabongtot and Lubuagan made a manifesto declaring Tabuk City, Kalinga as a peace zone.

Progress of the case

Malasi said that the police are looking into the possibility that the shooting incident might have been triggered by another shooting that happened in 2013.

“Ti maysa nga motive nga kitkitan iti kapulisan ket revenge. Ibaga mi nga revenge kasi idi 2013 adda ngay iti nangyari nga pinaltugan iti taga Mabongtot iti Lubuagan,” he said.

Nevertheless, the suspects behind the attack of Lumpao remain to be unknown since no one has witnessed the incident and saw the faces of the attackers.
