Lubuagan vegetable producers get 50 Cavans of free fertilizer

Lubuagan, Kalinga- The Office of the Provincial Agriculture Services (OPAS) recently distributed 50 bags of fertilizers to boost the production of vegetables in Manangol, Mabilong Lubuagan through the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).


The fertilizers will be used to grow good quality of pechay, ginger, bell pepper, African Eggplant and cabbages.


According to Municipal Agriculturist Charlie Osdeg, each bag containing 50kg of Triple 14 or 14-14-14 Complete Fertilizer was given to around 43 farmer beneficiaries of the Manangol Luminawa Farmer’s Irrigators Association.

Triple 14 is a complete fertilizer that has equal percentages of nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium. The fertilizer has elements that help plants carry out their full life cycle.


Osdeg said, “Gapu ta kanayun da agmula kasla bumaba (ken) maawan ti (panaka fertile) ti daga (isu nga) kailangan ikkan ti fertilizer diyay daga tapnu pumintas manen dagiti mula da.”

The farmer beneficiaries of Manangol were chosen by Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) since they are already producers of high value crops.


The distribution was made possible through the Department of Agriculture- Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) with the Office of the Municipal Agricultural Services (OMAS) on Sunday, September 5, 2021.


High Value Crops Development Program


High Value Crops Development Program or the 1995 Republic Act 7900 is to promote the production, processing, marketing and distribution of high value crops. The program is focused to achieve self-sufficiency in vegetable production.

It is one of the banner programs of the Department of Agriculture mandated to contribute for attainment of the food self-sufficiency, economic growth and enhancement of consumer’s health and welfare.


The act also aims to help address food security, poverty and sustainable growth through the promotion of production, processing, marketing and distribution of high value crops.
