Luna athletes ready for 2024 Apayao Provincial Athletic Meet

Luna, Apayao – More than 400 athletes from Luna are now ready to secure their spot in the regional sports festival through the incoming 2024 Apayao Provincial Athletic Meet.

The said activity, which serves as a platform for the selection of players who will be representing Apayao in the CARAA meet, will be held on February 24 – 26, 2024.

During said event, around 2,800 student athletes will be participating in the different contested activities at the Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex and other playing venues in Luna, Pudtol, Flora, and Santa Marcela.

Of the 2,800 players, 405 will be representing the Municipality of Luna.

According to Municipal Tourism Officer Terence Grande, these 405 students have been preparing for the provincial meet for three weeks, and within this period, the Luna Local Government Unit headed by Mayor Josephine Bangsil has provided their meals, snacks, sports equipment, and transportation.

Part of the LGU’s support also includes providing an honorarium to the athletes’ trainers.

With only three days left before the provincial sports festival, Mayor Bangsil wishes the Luna delegation good luck, encouraging them to have fun, make friends, and learn from the experience, as these will also be their greatest takeaways from the competition, apart from the medals.

Last year, Luna placed first runner-up in the competition with 203 medals – 77 gold, 62 silver, and 64 bronze.
