‘Magalong is 2nd top performing mayor in PH’ – NGO survey

Baguio City, Philippines – City Mayor Benjamin Magalong of Baguio who has been known for decrying corruption has gained the people’s trust.

Among all the mayors in the country, Magalong received the second highest top performing rating in an independent group survey.

Non-partisan RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD) conducted its "Boses ng Bayan" poll from June 25 to July 5, 2023, surveying 10,000 randomly selected registered voters. Results were announced over the weekend.

The appraisal for city mayors is anchored on seven fundamental criteria: service delivery, financial acumen, economic progress, leadership governance, environmental conservation, social initiatives, and engagement, as stated by RPMD Executive Director Dr. Paul Martinez.

With a rating of 90.91 percent, Mayor Magalong closely followed Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte who emerged on top with 95.73 percent, and Mayor Art Robes of San Jose del Monte who is also on the second tier with a rating of 91.67 percent.

Joining the tier was Mayor Nikko Mercado of Maasin (90.88 percent).

Landing on the third position were Mayor Eric Africa of Lipa (89.72 percent), Mayor Jonas Cortes of Mandaue (89.71 percent), Mayor Indy Oaminal of Ozamis (89.32 percent), Mayor Ipe Remollo of Dumaguete (88.94 percent), Mayor Samsam Gullas of Talisay (88.93 percent), Mayor Bambol Tolentino (88.85 percent) of Tagaytay, and Mayor Ahong Chan of Lapu-Lapu (88.78 percent).

They were trailed by fourth placers: Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo (86.79 percent), Mayor Ma. Ester Hamor of Sorsogon (86.63 percent), Mayor Vilma Caluag of San Fernando (86.55 percent), and Mayor Baste Duterte of Davao (86.51 percent).

To recall, Magalong ranked 4th Top Performing Mayors of the Philippines with a work performance rating of 86 percent in a survey conducted by RPMD from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2, 2022.
