Magsaysay, Tabuk City reinforces ordinance penalizing irresponsible pet owners

Magsaysay, Tabuk City – Barangay officials of Magsaysay in Tabuk City moved to reinforce the implementation of its ordinance penalizing irresponsible pet owners who allow their pets to roam the streets.

The move, according to the village Chief Enrique Sagayo, is to prevent stray animals from damaging properties as well as to maintain cleanliness in the barangay. Also, the effort seeks to lessen vehicular accidents caused by wandering animals.

This is contained in Barangay Ordinance No. 14 series of 2008 which covers animals like goats, dogs, native pigs, and cats, among others.

Under the ordinance, tanods and barangay officials are authorized to capture stray animals and surrender the same to the impounding facility at the barangay hall for proper action.

Owners of animals caught loitering shall pay P300 for the first offense, P500 for the second, and P700 for the third offense before claiming their pets.

While Sagayo commended the 80 percent responsible pet owners who have secured their pets, he warned those who have not chained their dogs yet to do so as the officials shall continue to catch stray animals.

“Pangaasi yu ta diretson nga igalot yu dagiti aso yu ta itultuloy mi latta nga agtiliw kadagiti as-aso nga bulos ket pagtulnogan tayo kuma ta linteg wenno ordinansa dayta nga msapul nga pagtulnogan tayo,” stated the village chief.

For the month of September, the officials penalized a total of 14 dog owners.
