Makilo Bridge in Tinglayan up for replacement with P70M funding

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Makilo Bridge in Bugnay, Tinglayan is set to be replaced this year, as listed in the priority projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways – Upper Kalinga this 2023.


The bridge, as recalled, has been subjected to repair and rehabilitation in 2021 due to damages incurred.

This time, having funded an amount of P70 million, a more secure bridge will be constructed that shall assure safer and easier access for travelers from nearby barangays, municipalities, as well as other provinces.


DPWH-Upper Kalinga has been allotted this year P2.6 billion for 79 projects, of which, Makilo Bridge is one of those appropriated some of the greatest funds.


Apart from the replacement of said bridge, PIA Kalinga said big ticket projects of the office also include P114 million Balantoy-Dao-angan-Poswoy-Ababaan road, and P55 million funds for the concreting of Phase 1 of Aciga-Tawang-Buaya (Mabaca section) national road.

Newly turned-over bridges in Tinglayan


Three bridges were inaugurated in Tinglayan in November last year - the Purag Chartoy Foot Bridge, Mabongis Bridge, and Wallis Bridge.


Mabongis and Wallis Bridges also underwent replacement as the two bridges already weakened due to the passage of time.


The P19 million Mabongis bridge was funded through the Department of Public Works and Highways 2022 General Approriation Act while Wallis bridge was allocated a fund of P9 million through the General Appropriation Act of 2021 for Regular Infrastructure projects.


The 132-meter Purag Chartoy Bridge, meantime, was funded with more or less p4 million through the General Appropriation Act of 2021.
