Pasil Mayor among LMP representative in Int'l forum on maritime economy

Pasil, Kalinga – Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. of Pasil, Kalinga, along with Mayor Marcos Mamay of Nunungan, Davao del Norte, represented National President, Mayor JB Bernos of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines in an international forum on maritime economy.

Malannag is the incumbent Assistant National Treasurer, while Mamay is the Vice President for External Affairs of the said national league.

On behalf of Bernos, the two officials attended the Workshop on "Marine Economy and ‘Dual Carbon’ Strategy" and the First Council Meeting of 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee held on June 2 to 4, 2023 in Fuzhou, China.

As he shared the news on his social media page, Mayor Malannag Jr. relayed the event marine finance, marine technology, marine culture and tourism.

Likewise, the forum involved discussions on marine economy development of places involved in the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (MSR), a key component of China's Belt and Road Initiative, a major development plan that aims to connect China with the rest of Asia, Africa and Europe.

Mayor Mamay had the opportunity to speak and engage during the panel discussion session of the forum regarding the "dual carbon" path for marine economy development or the green transition and practice in blue industry, stated the LMP in a press release.

Themed “Marine Economy and ‘Dual Carbon’ Strategy,” the forum made emphasis on blue carbon, the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems which are now being recognized for their role in mitigating climate change.

Through the sessions, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation were deliberated for expansion of marine economy development.

Further, the two mayors were able to experience Fuzhou’s history, culture and economic, and social development.
