Farmer arrested for firing gun in the front yard of a residence in Bulanao

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Authorities arrested a 46-year-old farmer past midnight of August 4 after allegedly discharging his firearm in Purok 1, Bulanao.

Initial investigation of the Tabuk City police reveals that the complainant, who is an AFP member, received a call around 1:00 AM from his brother while he was at the house of a relative, informing the complainant that their mother heard somebody fired a gun in front of their house.

The complainant rushed home, and when he was few blocks away from their house, he heard gunfire. He saw the suspect identified as Rogelio Ballawig, who immediately fled aboard a motorcycle.

The complainant followed him and saw the suspect stopped in Purok 5, Bulanao Centro. Right then, the complainant called the Tabuk City Police Station for assistance.

Upon the arrival of the responding personnel, the AFP personnel pointed the suspect out, who admitted that he owns the motorcycle parked in the area. When police asked him to pull his shirt up, they saw that he was carrying a gun, which he handed to the police officers.

Since Ballawig failed to present documents that allow him to carry a firearm, he was brought to the Bulanao Police Sub-station for further investigation and documentation.

Meantime, the police recovered four empty fire cartridges and live ammunition at the place of the incident. Additionally, the suspect was charged for alarm and scandal in relation to Republic Act 10591 or ‘An Act Providing for a Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof’.

Tabuk City Chief of Police, Police Lieutenant Colonel Dinulong Tombali, reminded the public of the danger of stray bullets, discouraging them to fire their gun indiscriminately.

“The citizenry is also encouraged to report if they know illegal gun owners if they want to help rid of the irresponsible gun holders,” he said.
