Man in Mt. Province who stole cow, arrested 3 decades later

Mt. Province, Philippines – A man was arrested on Monday, June 19, after over three decades on the run.

Now at 56, the suspect whose identity was withheld by the police, committed qualified theft sometime in 1986.


The accused took one live cow at the pasture land between Tetep-an, Sagada and Dalican village in Bontoc, and brought it to Sagada, the Mt. Province police reported in a press release.


On August 27 of the same year, the Municipal Trial Judge of Bontoc issued a warrant of arrest for violating the Anti-Cattle Rustling Law.

The suspect went into hiding and it was only on Monday that he was arrested in Sagada by joint operatives of Sagada Municipal Police Station (MPS), Bontoc MPS, and Police Intervention Unit/ Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of said province.


He may post a bond amounting to P9,500.


Under the law, any person convicted of cattle rustling, irrespective of the value of the large cattle involved, shall be punished by prision mayor in its maximum period to reclusion temporal in its medium period if the offense is committed without violence against or intimidation of persons or force upon things.
