Man believed to be mentally ill killed and dumped in Gattaran, Cagayan


Gattaran, Cagayan – A man in his 50s, believed to be suffering from a mental illness, was allegedly killed by two men and dumped on a bridge in Aguiguican, Gattaran, Cagayan, on Wednesday, January 24.

 

An off-duty police officer notified her comrades at the Gattaran Municipal Police Station on the evening of the said date about an old man being forcibly dragged and taken by two men from an abandoned house in Centro Norte of the same town.

 

The suspects carried the victim to a ‘kulong-kulong,’ urging the police officer to follow them and calling for backup from the Gattaran police.

 

Upon arriving at the bridge in Aguiguican, the two suspects stopped, carried the victim, and threw him onto the bridge.


The two men fled the scene but were caught by responding police. Gattaran police identified them as "Arnold," 47, from Centro Norte, Gattaran, and "Jimmy," 21, a resident of Aguiguican, Gattaran.

 

Pieces of evidence—a caliber 9mm gun, two magazines containing 19 bullets, and a TMX motorcycle—were recovered from the suspects. They will be facing charges for murder and violation of RA 10591, or the "Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.”

 

As for the victim, he was taken to Dr. Thomas Nolasco Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His identity is not known yet as of this writing. He was about 5’7” in height, long-haired, and was wearing a long-sleeve, gray shirt, and white shorts when he met his tragic death.

 

Those with information on the identity of the victim are urged to coordinate with Gattaran Police for the victim’s relatives to be informed of what happened.
