Man demanding money to return student’s lost phone, arrested in Isabela

Cabatuan, Isabela - While other people receive rewards after returning lost items, the situation differs for a man arrested by authorities for allegedly asking money from a student whose lost phone he found.


The accused is identified as alias "Greg", 25 years old, and a resident of Cabatuan, Isabela.

The victim, whose name was withhled, lost his cellphone on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in Barangay Sampaloc, Cabatuan. While looking for it, a man called him and said that he found the phone but that he could get his phone back if he gave P3,500 for it.


The victim told his father about the demand, and they later decided to report the incident to the police.


Upon receiving the report, the police immediately conducted an entrapment operation resulting in the arrest of the suspect on the same day.


Confiscated from him were the victim’s cellphone and the marked money used in the operation.


He is now in police custody for further investigation and for a possible case to be filed against him.
