Man in Benguet abusing adopted child for 8 years arrested

Benguet, Philippines – A man accused of sexually and physically abusing his foster child for nearly a decade was finally arrested.


The arrest happened after authorities were informed about the gruesome incidents hidden for 8 years.


Benguet Police Provincial Office said that the arrest warrant against the suspect who is listed as Top 10 Most Wanted Person in Benguet was served by the authorities on May 15, 2022 in Kias, Baguio City.


According to the victim, the suspect who is her foster parent first raped her in 2014, when she was only 13 years old. The incident lasted until 2019.

Apart from being abused sexually, the victim also disclosed that the suspect was abusing her physically from 2014 to 2022. The latest incident happened last month where the suspect hit her back with a speaker and punched her.


On April 18, 2022, after suffering from the hands of her foster parent, the victim was able to seek help from Congressman Eric Yap during the latter’s outreach activity in Loacan, Itogon, Benguet.


After learning the victim’s case, Yap coordinated with the Benguet Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Reynaldo Pasiwen, who immediately instructed the Itogon police to investigate the case.

With enough evidence gathered by the police in their investigation, the suspect was charged with rape and violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.


When the court issued the arrest warrant for the suspect, the police proceeded to arrest him on May 15.


The office of Congressman Yap provided assistance to the victim for her medical and educational needs, as well as livelihood assistance.
