Man in Buguey, Cagayan drowns while fishing

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

Buguey, Cagayan – A 52-year-old fisherman drowned while fishing in a river in Buguey early morning of Tuesday, October 11, 2022, according to authorities.

The fisherman’s body was recovered afternoon of same date after a search and rescue operation done by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the Philippine Coast Guard .

The victim was identified as Marshal P. Bautista, a resident of Quinawegan Buguey.

Authorities are hinting at the possibility that the victim might have suffered from a heart attack while catching fish, resulting in his drowning.

It was known that the victim has earlier suffered from a heart attack and was hospitalized.

As explained by LGU Buguey Municipal Administrator Adolfo Miranda Jr, residents in the area usually fish during rainy days, as these are the times when more fish are caught in rivers, particularly when the water level rises.

Earlier this October, a cadaver was retrieved by MDRRMO Buguey, PCG-Aparri Sub Station, PNP Maritime of Aparri, and some fisherfolk along the coastal waters of Barangay San Isidro.

The cadaver was identified as Rino Bagaan, 48, from Cuyo, Palawan but currently residing in Sanja, Aparri West.
