Man trapped and killed by blaze after saving others from house fire in Baguio City

Baguio City, Philippines – A 48-year old man was killed by fire when a blaze razed a four-storey house at Simsim Compound, Tiptop, Pacdal, Baguio City on Friday, June 12.

 

The house fire broke out at around 8:40 p.m. of said date, according to Baguio City Fire Station Fire Marshal FSupt Marisol Hernandez Odiver.

 

The fire was put out around 10:43 p.m.

 

In said incident, one was not able to come out alive. He was identified as Brenson Bayo, married and an engineer.

 

It was revealed that the casualty managed to call for help from their neighbors. He even helped those in the house to get out. However, when it was time for him to save himself from the fire, he was not able to do it due to the rapid spread of fire.

 

There were four other individuals who survived the incident.

 

They received financial assistance from the city government – P20,000 emergency shelter assistance, P20,000 burial assistance and P12,000 cash assistance. They were also provided with psychological first aid, family food packs and non-food items such as sleeping kits, kitchen and hygiene kits.

 

The cost of damage was estimated to be around P5 million.

 

Investigators are still working to determine what led to the fire.
