Man with mental illness arrested in Isabela for abusing 5-year-old PWD niece

Cauayan City, Isabela – A man from Santiago City, Isabela with mental disorder was arrested on August 20, 2022 by authorities for allegedly raping his 5-year-old niece afflicted by a disability disorder.

Bombo Radyo Cauayan reported that Santiago City Police Office (SCPO) Station 1 and Station 2 nabbed the suspect following the complaint of the mother about the incident.

Police investigation said raping incident happened when the mother of the victim was having severe abdominal pain. The victim’s mother decided to go to the hospital for check-up, leaving her 3-year-old and 5-year-old children with the suspect at home. After the incident, the victim told her mother that she was raped by her uncle.

Investigation said the suspect is a brother of the victim’s father. The suspect was staying at the home where the victim's family lived while working as a construction worker.

The suspect is facing sexual assault and qualified statutory charges. If found guilty, the sentence for such offence is reclusion perpetua or life in prison.

Police said that the victim's mother is committed to pursue the case against the man.
