The best of the Cordillera food and the traditional cooking styles will be showcased once again at the much-anticipated “Mangan Taku” Festival, set to take place from April 24-28 at the Rose Garden, Burnham Park, Baguio City.

Mangan Taku, a Kankanaey dialect that means “Let’s Eat”, brings together unique flavors of the Cordillera region, featuring indigenous dishes and traditional cooking practices passed down through generations.

During the festival, various local dishes are being highlighted and offered to the public, such as pinikpikan (a native chicken delicacy), etag (salted smoked pork),pinuneg (a traditional blood sausage),dishes featuring the heirloom rice varieties of Kalinga and the tinawon of Ifugao, among other delicacies from Abra, Apayao, Baguio, Benguet, and Mt. Province.

The celebration of the said festival coincides with the nationwide observance of Filipino Food Month, declared through Proclamation No. 469 (2018). Filipino Food Month aims to promote and preserve the rich culinary traditions of the Philippines.

The Department of Tourism—Cordillera, according to the information obtained by a local media outlet from the agency, is taking it a step further this year in promoting the festival by partnering with hotels and restaurants across the city.

Mangan Taku stickers will be displayed at participating food establishments to help tourists and locals easily find places offering Cordillera dishes apart from those to be displayed at the venue.

Aside from the food establishments, the festival will feature live cooking demos, traditional music and dance performances, and cultural exhibits, making it a full sensory experience that honors the upland people and their culinary legacy.

The DOT-CAR is inviting everyone to join the event and have a taste of the soulful flavors of the Cordillera.

“The 6th Mangan Taku Cordillera Food Fair is almost here! …Come and experience the rich culinary heritage of the Cordillera Region through unique gastronomic adventures, from traditional delicacies to innovative local flavors! ,” the agency wrote on its Facebook post.
