Husband and wife die in van-tricycle collision in San Mateo, Isabela

San Mateo, Isabela - A married couple, both in their 50s, died in a tragic closed van and tricycle collision along the Santiago-Tuguegarao Road in Barangay San Antonio, San Mateo, Isabela on Friday, September 20.

The married couple were identified as Diosdado Gamiao, 57, and Rosan Gamiao, 56. They were residents of Cabatuan, Isabela.

A report from the San Mateo PNP stated that the two were on board a tricycle that day and were heading back home after delivering food to the wife’s ailing mother at the hospital.

While traversing the Santiago-Tuguegarao Road, the close van suddenly encroached on their lane, thus the head-on collision.

Due to the incident, the victims sustained severe injuries. The responding authorities rushed them to a hospital nearby, but they were not able to survive.

Meanwhile, the closed van driver, identified as Samuel Bejuco, 32, was brought to the San Mateo Police Station for further investigation.

When asked by the police why he encroached on the victim's lane, Bejuco explained that he tried not to hit the vehicle he was following when it suddenly stopped, causing him to end up on the other lane and hit the victim's vehicle.

He is currently at said police station while charges against him are being prepared.
