Baguio City, Philippines — In recognition of his exemplary performance as a public servant, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong received an ‘Outstanding Public Servant’ award from the Volunteers against Crime and Corruption on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.

The accolade is given to individuals for their efficient public service based on the eight norms of conduct provided under RA No. 6713, otherwise known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

These include commitment to the public interest, professionalism, justness and sincerity, political neutrality, responsiveness to the public, nationalism and patriotism, commitment to democracy, and simple living.

The award, as mentioned by the Baguio City Public Information Office, recognizes Magalong’s exceptional ability to bridge divides, engage with constituents, and deliver results that positively impact the lives of Baguio residents.

In connection, the mayor also got an appraisal rating of 90.91 percent during the RPMD’s “Boses ng Bayan" poll from June 25 to July 5 this year, making him the second-highest performing mayor in the country.

He was then named the 4th top-performing mayor nationwide with a work performance rating of 86 percent in a survey conducted by RPMD from November 27 to December 2, 2022.

Magalong is known for his anti-corruption campaign, even urged his fellow officials to quit corrupt practices and that they should be ‘passionate’ about what they are supposed to do as public servants.

His advocacy was backed by more than 100 Philippine mayors, who then vowed to uphold the rule of law and human rights.
