Pasil, Kalinga – Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag, Jr. of Pasil, Kalinga, belied the news published on a national news outlet, reporting the discovery of “boiling water” in a paddy field in the municipality.

On Monday, August 01, Jobilee Maximo of Barangay Balinciagao Norte uploaded a video on her social media account, showing a bubbling section of a rice paddy in their area. In her post, she captioned, “Dahil KY (kay) earthquake pummigsan danum un rumwar.”

Early morning this Friday, Philippine Daily Inquirer released an article stating that farmers discovered the water to be “boiling.” This, the report added, is according to an official of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

The concern was likewise raised in a press conference on Tuesday.

In response, Cordillera Regional Director Albert Mogol disclosed that their department did not receive any report regarding the said situation yet.

I-ve-verify namin ito kung meron man. Pero, so far, wala namang na-report na incident. We are closely coordinating with the local DRRM units natin, pero so far, wala po kaming natanggap na report,” said Mogol.

‘Wrong news’

In an interview with Mayor Malannag, he clarified, “Han nga boiling water dayta. Wrong news.”

“Dati nga ada danum nga rumrumwar dita nga talon, ngem ti nag-deperensiyaan na lang tatta after the earthquake ket dummakkel. Tapos nu agtudu, warm diay danum nga rumrumwar han nga boiling,” explained Malannag.

“Nu boiling ah ket natay amin nga mula,” he added.

Not a cause of worry

The mayor further assured his constituents that the water coming out from the paddy is not a cause of worry as it has been a situation even before.

Precaution for aftershocks

Meanwhile, Malannag reiterated his call for the residents in the municipality to remain cautious and remain in safe places.

On his Facebook page, he posted a massive landslide and rockfall at Sambo, Dangtalan, caused by the aftershocks of the Abra quake.

The incident, he said, harmed no one.
