Mayor Malannag Jr. of Pasil renews call for Cordillera Autonomy

Pasil, Kalinga – With the municipality of Pasil receiving and beating up the symbolic gong on Saturday, July 09, Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. renewed his call and support to the quest for Cordillera regional autonomy.

Said event is part of the annual Unity Gong Relay, the ceremonial bringing of the symbolic gong to the municipalities and cities in the region to celebrate the oneness and camaraderie of Cordillerans.

This year, Malannag took the festive ceremony as an opportunity to stress some benefits that the people in Cordillera could enjoy should the region be granted autonomy.

Among these, according to the mayor, include the faster development of the regional economy.

Further, the region, dubbed as the “Watershed Cradle of North Luzon,” hosting nine major rivers supplying irrigation and energy, can secure its ancestral domain and cultural heritage with the autonomy.

The municipality, Malannag added, will also be hosting mines, geothermal, and hydropower. The projects will be well-developed with the passage of the bill for CAR’s autonomy.

Malannag highlighted that the celebration of the region’s 35th founding anniversary is in time for the leaders to prove their readiness in self-governance.

He likewise called for his constituents from the legislative department down to the barangays to join in said campaign.

"Suportaran tayo daytoy nga otonomiya ta datayo metlang ti kangrunaan nga ag-benefit," the mayor said.

Malannag relayed the same message as he turned over the symbolic gong to the Balbalan municipality led by Mayor Almar Malannag on Sunday, July 10.
