Mayor Martinez champions blood donation initiative in Santa Marcela

Santa Marcela, Apayao - Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez was among the 49 donors who participated in the Blood Donation Drive held at the LGU municipal kiosk on March 6.

Mayor Martinez's active involvement underscores her commitment to supporting the Department of Health's efforts to ensure an adequate blood supply nationwide.

Organized by the Municipal Health Office, the day-long donation drive aimed to maintain a sufficient blood reserve for Santa Marcela residents during emergencies.

With the theme "Give blood, save lives," the MHO collaborated with FNLGHTC and the Provincial Health Unit to raise awareness about the importance of replenishing the municipality's blood supply.

The initiative, highlighted on the LGU's Facebook page, successfully collected various blood types from the 49 donors. These donations are now stored in the blood bank account at the Far North Luzon General Hospital in Luna, Apayao.

This initiative aligns with the blood collection strategies outlined by MHO Officer-In-Charge, Dr. Ellaine Balnao, who aims to reach a target of 1% or more of the municipality's total population as blood donors this year.

In a statement, Mayor Martinez encouraged healthy individuals aged 18 to 65 to donate blood every three months to ensure a steady supply for medical procedures, including blood transfusions.

"Donating blood not only benefits ourselves but also our constituents. It is a gesture of generosity and kindness, knowing that we save lives with each donation," remarked the mayor.

She also lauded the unwavering partnership and support provided by the PHU and FNLGHTC teams in promoting a healthier and more secure society in the municipality.

Sangguniang Bayan member and Committee on Health Edna Calban echoed these sentiments in an interview, emphasizing the continued prioritization of health services and operations to safeguard public health.
