MedTech from Sta. Marcela to present study in international conference


Sta. Marcela, Apayao – A medical technologist from Sta. Marcela, Apayao will be heading to Canberra, Australia to train and to present at an international conference from September 6 to 15, 2023.


Ivy Mae Calumpit, a medical technologist II at the Rural Health Unit of Sta. Marcela, will be attending the Australian National University’s ‘R’ Training on September 6 – 8 and the South Asia Field Epidemiology and Technology Network, Inc.(SAFETYNET) Scientific Conference from September 12 to 15.

The SAFETYNET Conference is an avenue for trainees and graduates of field epidemiology training programs in Asia Pacific to showcase their work before international public health practitioners. The event likewise provides participants with the latest information on human, animal, and environmental health. It will also deepen their knowledge of epidemiology methods.


Calumpit who is a Certified Applied Epidemiologist was granted 5,000 AUD or around P184,000 by the Australian National University in support of her participation in the training and conference, the Department of Health Cordillera announced.


She is one of the 10 trainees chosen from the ASEAN countries and the lone Cordilleran recipient of the said amount this year.


During the SAFETYNET conference, the medical technologist will be presenting the abstract of her study entitled, “Cover Unveiled: A Prolonged Dengue Outbreak in the Mountainous Area of Northern Luzon, Philippines, May 2022”.


The Local Government Unit of Sta. Marcela headed by Mayor Evelyn Martinez has earlier commended Calumpit and wished her good luck in her journey to cultivating her skills and conquering the international spotlight.
