Member of private armed group shot in Abra encounter


Bucay, Abra – A member of a private armed group was injured during an encounter with police officers early Monday morning, Oct. 09.


Police said that while doing a mobile patrol at Sitio Nagsangalan, Layugan, Bucay, around 12:35 a.m., the team composed of the Bucay police and 2nd Police Mobile Force Company encountered around five members of an armed group.

The encounter resulted in a firefight that injured Romnick Balmaceda, of legal age and a resident of Calumbaya Dolores, Abra. He is now in the hospital for medical attention.


His four other companions, meantime, were able to flee during the firefight and headed to a forest near the area. Their identities remain unknown as of this writing, but they are now being pursued by police.


The Manabo police force, along with the Police Regional Mobile Force Battalion, is now helping the team in chasing the four other individuals.


Meanwhile, recovered at the scene were 2 loaded M16 rifles, 5 magazines of M16 with ammunition, 120 5.56 live ammo, and 4. 37 fired 5.56 cartridge cases.
