Tinglayan, Kalinga – As the incidence of Dengue is expected to increase this rainy season, the Municipal Health Office reminded yTinglayans on Monday, May 30, to be wary of dengue virus-carrier mosquitos.

The Municipal Health office recorded 11 dengue cases from January to May that raised alarm in town.

Seven (7) cases are from Barangay Poblacion and 1 case each from the barangays of Basao, Ngibat, Dananao and Ambato.

MHO personnel Holly Balla-ao said the public must observe precautionary measures such as reducing the amount of skin exposed by wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants and using mosquito repellents.

yTinglayans were also told to avoid going outside at dawn, dusk, and early evening. They were likewise asked to remove stagnant and excess water from plants and observe the 4 o'clock habit of cleaning the surroundings every 4:00 pm.

MHO Tinglayan added that the public should seek early consultations when symptoms of Dengue persist.

MHO already employed a search and destroy strategy in possible mosquito breeding places last Friday, May 27, 2022, at Barangay Poblacion where most cases of dengue were detected.

As explained by health authorities, there is no specific medication recommended for dengue, but early detection and access to medical care lower fatality rates below 1%, and prevention is the key to fight the spread of the fastest spreading vector-borne disease in the world.
