Miner from Kalinga killed by falling rock in Philex Mines

Tuba, Benguet – A 34-year-old miner from Tanudan, Kalinga died after a rock hit him while working at Philex Mines on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, reported Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation – MPBC.


The victim was identified as Cristobal Wangnison Balagan, single, a native of Mangali, Tanudan Kalinga, and a resident of Building 12 Western Saddle, Philex Mines, Camp 3, Tuba.

Police report stated that Balagan, along with his two co-workers, was fixing the air and water pipes when the incident happened.


He was rushed to Sto. Niño Hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to the severe injuries he sustained in the different parts of his body.


The management of Philex Mines is set to conduct investigation on said incident.


On July 15 this year, a 41-year-old mine development supervisor was buried alive by debris from a sudden rock fall in the same mining corporation.
