Minimum wage hike decision in CAR may be released Monday

Baguio City, Philippines – The decision on petitions for minimum wage increase in Cordillera may be released by Monday, announced Regional Director of Department of Labor and Employment, Atty. Nathaniel Lacambra thru the Regional News Group - RNG Luzon.


After the simultaneous public consultation and hearings held throughout the region in April 2022, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) filed on May 06 filed wage hike petition for workers in the private sector.

The trade union appealed to the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Office to increase to P410 the existing P350 minimum wage. The petition covers the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province.


Lacambra conveyed they already had initial agreements but was not yet signed by the board members.

“We scheduled another meeting sa Lunes, baka sakaling ilabas na natin by that time yung result. Sa tingin ko good news dahil halos napag-agreehan na ng ating mga sectors, labor and management sector,” he said.


Request to exempt MSMEs


Meanwhile, the President of Employers Confederation of the Philippines, Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. reiterated their request to exempt Small and Medium Scale Enterprises that are still recovering from the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.


“Pwede bang i-exempt yung micro. Alam mo naman, you see, yung micro natin is 90% of the enterprises and 65% of the employees come from the micro. Alam din naman natin na kalahati niyan e sarado dahil pandemic at yung iba hindi pa nagbubukas,” Luis stated.
