Miss Abra ranks top 5 in Binibining Pilipinas National Costume Competition

Updated: Jun 13

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Abra province is now making waves in the national pageant scene through their first Miss Abra titleholder who was sent to compete in the Binibining Pilipinas 2024 pageant.

Myrna Esguerra became one of the crowd’s favorite and even one of the media favorite after her impressive performance in a fashion show event which marked the start of the series of activities of the pageant.

On Tuesday, June 11, she dominated anew another competition in the pageant – the national costume segment where she was named as one of the top five.

The beauty queen wore a costume paying homage to her hometown as well as to her mother who has been a basket weaver for a decade and a resilient single mother.

The masterpiece designed by Richard Strandz is called ‘Dulimaman’ - coined from the name of the heroine of the Tinguian people of Abra. The ensemble is a Filipiniana-inspired woven gown with patterned weaves as its main feature.

To recall, Esguerra is one of the two Cordillerans that entered the top 40 of the competition following a closed-door screening.

The other Cordilleran beauty queen is Marikit Manaois of Baguio City.

The two, along with 38 other queens, will vie for two crowns waiting for them during the finals on July 7 at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta City.

P1 million each in cash prize awaits crown keepers of the Binibining Pilipinas-Globe and Binibining Pilipinas- International titles.
