Missing fisherman in Sta. Ana found dead in Gonzaga, Cagayan

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

Gonzaga, Cagayan – A fisherman from Santa Ana who went missing since Monday was found Wednesday, October 12, at the shoreline of Ipil, Gonzaga.

Richard Mangrubang, 47, was already dead when a resident in the area saw him around 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

After undergoing postmortem examination, the Municipal Health Office of Sta. Ana declared his cause of death was drowning.

It was known from Sta. Ana Police Station that the victim went fishing and headed to Palaui Island on Monday evening but never got back home since then.

His wife only reported that her husband was missing on Tuesday, October 11.

Authorities hinted he might have come across the bad weather due to Typhoon Maymay resulting in the drowning incident.

Mangrubang is the second casualty of Typhoon Maymay in Cagayan province.

The first casualty, as recalled, was also a fisherman - Marshal P. Bautista, 52, and a resident of Quinawegan Buguey.

Just like Mangrubang, said fisherman drowned while fishing in a river in Buguey, but authorities are considering the possibility that the victim might have suffered from a heart attack while fishing, which led to the drowning incident.
