Tabuk City, Kalinga – Sixty-four drivers of the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC)-Kalinga are now being trained by the cooperative, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to prepare them for the operation of modernized vehicles in Kalinga.
Initially, there are 22 units of modernized public utility vehicles to be expected to ply the Tabuk-Tugueguerao route next month as part of the full implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) of the Duterte Administration in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
In an interview, CBSTC-Kalinga Provincial Manager Brandy Bitalan said that the training being provided to drivers is the last training they shall attend before granting them the needed certificate enabling them to finally operate the modern PUVs.
“For the province of Kalinga, daytuy ti pinakafirst a training da because they will be given a certificate of TESDA, last training for drivers tapnu mausar dan dagituy modern PUV,” Bitalan said.
Among the lectures provided include Values Re-orientation and Personality Development, Land Transportation office Rules, Laws and Regulations, Cooperative Education and Transport Operations, minor vehicle maintenance and servicing, among others.
Next week, the PUV drivers shall also undertake hands-on driving of the modernized units to be facilitated by the Transport Operation Department of CSBTC.
As for other routes in Kalinga, particularly in Tabuk City, Bitalan related that they were able to get the Dagupan-Dilag and Balong route, which will enable them to get additional 30 units of class 2 modern PUVs for operation next year.
“For the other routes, ur-urayen mi ti approval ti city idiay route plan, baka maala mi ti kaadwan,” he added.
Further, CBSTC-Kalinga, he said is now on the process of coordinating with the Regional Office for them to acquire other routes including Tabuk to Santiago, Tabuk to Baguio via Ambuclao, Tabuk via Tugueguerao to Manila and Tabuk to Clark routes.
According to the provincial manager, each modernized PUV can accommodate 33 passengers, as it has 23 passenger seats, while 10 people may be allowed to stand.
Also, said vehicles are equipped with air conditioners, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, overhead televisions, digital clocks, GPS, and transport cards.
