Mom and gov't employee die as teen fell asleep while driving along Enrile, Cagayan road


Enrile, Cagayan – A road crash along the national road in Roma Norte, Enrile caused by a teen driver falling asleep at the wheel killed a mom and a government employee over the weekend.


Coming from a family outing in Calamba, Laguna, the teen driver identified as Adrian Espejo, 18, substituted his father from driving the van when the tragic accident transpired.


Enrile police, based on an investigation, said that while traversing the said road, Espejo fell asleep, causing their vehicle ferrying 10 individuals to crash into a concrete barrier and then into a telecommunication post.

The police said all of those on board the van are relatives.


With the impact of the crash, two were declared dead on arrival in a private hospital in Tuguegarao City, while eight others, including an infant, were injured.


The two casualties were named by police as Racel Espejo, married, a resident of San Jose, Baggao, and Ricky John Ramos, an employee of the local government of Calayan.


The infant and another passenger are still at the hospital for observation, while six of them were already discharged.


The van, meantime, was totally damaged.
