Cagayan, Philippines – Though there were 13 Delta variant cases recorded in Cagayan Province, there is a possibility that more cases of the highly contagious variant may surface in the province, says Collaborating Center for Disease Prevention and Control of Department of Health (DOH) Region 02.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office reports that Dr. Nica Taloma made a statement saying that there is a possibility that more of the documented Covid-19 cases in Cagayan are delta variant. Thus, it cannot be concluded that are only 13 cases of the variant due to a surge of infection recorded in August and early September this year.

However, the DOH assures they will be providing information and updates to towns identified with Delta variant cases in their barangays.

Dr. Taloma cautioned the public to be extra vigilant because the rapid increase in covid cases may create a new variant of the virus. However, she clarified that the COVID-19 vaccine is still efficient to fight all variants.

Meanwhile, the Province of Cagayan has recorded a total of 151 cases of Alpha variant.

As of September 3, there is a total of 4,386 active cases in Cagayan, of which 1,217 of these are in Tuguegarao City. The top five places in the province said to have the highest number of cases include Tuguegarao, Baggao with 407, Ballesteros with 241, Alcala with 213, and Aparri with 196.
