‘Most Child-Friendly Barangays’ in Balbalan get P1M cash incentive

Balbalan, Kalinga – Five ‘Most Child-Friendly Barangays’ in Balbalan received on Thursday, November 24, a total of P1 million cash incentive, as part of the Children’s Month celebration held at the Kenneth Dale Mangaoang Sports Center in Barangay Poblacion, Balbalan.

With their performance in providing proper care to children in their community through various programs, Ab-abaan was conferred the award as the ‘Most Child-Friendly Barangay.’ With them topping the search, the barangay was given a cash prize amounting to P300,000.

Barangay Gawaan ranked second and was awarded P250,000; Pantikian with a P200,000 reward; Dao-angan with P150,000; and Talalang with P100,000 for placing second to fifth, respectively.

Aside from cash prizes, plaques of recognition were also given to the winners.

Balbalan LGU headed by Mayor Almar Malannag initiated the awarding of the top 5 child-friendly barangays in the municipality in order to acknowledge the efforts of the communities in improving the children’s lives by realizing their rights.

Selection of Winners

In identifying the winners, the barangays were evaluated using a set of criteria provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera (DSWD-CAR).

Among the indicators used in the evaluation process include the functionality of the organized Barangay Committee for the Protection of Children (BCPC) which include the conduct of meetings, formulated plans/programs, budgeted amount, and report of accomplishments.

Another criterion is the standard indicators for child-friendly barangays which look into the survival, protection, and participation of children in the community; the status of registration of children; status of immunization, breastfeeding, malnutrition incidence; children's attendance to Early Childhood Care Development; their educational performance; cases of child-abuse; and the incidence of children in conflict with the law.

Ab-abaan gained the highest score thus, getting the top award in said search.
