Mountain Province State Polytechnic College is now a state university!

Bontoc, Mt. Province - Mt. Province finally has its own state university following the approval of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the transition of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College into a university on Tuesday, August 27.

In its press release on Wednesday, August 28, the CHED announced that the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) ‘will now be known as the Mountain Province State University’ (MPSU).

As cited in the press release, the institution successfully met and complied with the standards required by the law for conversion to a state university. The law mandating MPSPC’s conversion, Republic Act No. 12016, was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on August 1.

A series of evaluations assessing compliance in various areas, including enrollment, programs, faculty, research, learning resources and support structures, linkages, and outreach programs based on the evaluation and validation of CHED were conducted by its Composite Team before the approval.

Currently, MPSPC has campuses in the municipalities of Bontoc, Tadian, Bauko, Paracelis, and Barlig. It offers 23 undergraduate and six graduate programs, with an average enrollment of about 5,000 students per semester.

As it is now a university, the institution will soon have more slots for enrollees and offer more programs to students, a broader range of educational opportunities, and programs that can meet the needs of the students as the workforce.

With this achievement, MPSPC President Edgar Cue extended gratitude to the commission for their approval while acknowledging the efforts put in by the past and present key leaders of the province, the MPSPC Board of Trustees, the former MPSPC presidents, and the college officials.

“Your commitment and contributions have been instrumental in achieving this milestone,” the school president added in a statement.”

CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera, meanwhile, congratulated the MPSPC, stating that this milestone is ‘a testament of the institution’s continuous commitment to delivering quality education to the people of Mountain Province.’.
