Mountain Province, Philippines – Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. in a message this November 12, 2020 advised his constituents to continue being proactive as the province is still experiencing effects of bad weather due to typhoon Ulysses.

The western portion of Mountain Province which includes Bontoc, Sadanga, Sagada, Sabangan, Bauko, Tadian, Besao is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

“Please heed advisories from our Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and its municipal counterparts - the MDRRMOs headed by our Mayors,” the governor said.

He further advised people located in areas where there is a need to evacuate to cooperate with the authorities.

“We also advise people along our creeks and rivers to temporarily cease your activities. We cannot win against the raging power of nature. Water will always follow its normal course and experience will tell us that,” he added.

He then informed that as of 10:10 last night, electric power was restored but then as of today due to the continuous strong winds and rains which battered the province, power interruption is again being experienced.

As told by him, MOPRECO people are now doing their best to restore the electric power with the help of DRRMOs and Municipal LGUs in clearing trees and other debris affecting power lines.

With this, everyone is strongly advised to always consider downed electric and power lines to be energized. MJ. Limmayog of MOPRECO also informed him that linemen are currently fixing an NGCP power line along Lenga -Dacudac, Tadian hit by a fallen tree.

“As most cannot tell whether or not a power line is energized, we should assume that all downed power lines are live to avoid electric shocks or electrocution,” he cautioned.

Lacwasan futher informed that DPWH engineering districts (MPFDEO and MPSDEO), in close coordination with the PDRRMO, private contractors and other concerned citizens are continuously clearing roads from slides, fallen trees and from other debris.

“Amidst our ongoing battle against the COVID-19 and the successive typhoons that have and is still affecting our beloved province, we, your officials, are confident that we will be able to overcome all these through your cooperation. We have come a long long way and it is all because of our resiliency and faith in the Almighty as a people. We do not allow calamities to defeat us. We use trials to bring out the best in each of us. We work as one. We heal as one. And we rise as one.May God's protection and guidance be upon us all... Matago-tago tako am-in,” the governor concluded.
