Mt. Province, Philippines – A farmer from Kadaclan, Barlig, Mt. Province, Jolenda Lomas-e, is among the nominees of the ‘National Search for Outstanding Rural Women’(SORW) that will be held on October 27, 2022.

The SORW is an annual search conducted by the Department of Agriculture-Gender and Development (DA-GAD) to honor women who have shown an exemplary contribution to the development of agriculture and fisheries.

Lomas-e, the president of the Kadaclan Fisherfolk Organization and respected for continuously empowering women in their community, was chosen to compete on the said search after winning the regional outstanding rural woman in Cordillera this year, DA-Cordillera said.

Conduct of field visit to Lomas-e’s farm

On August 23-25, the SORW National Technical Committee Evaluators headed by Jo Ann Grace Pera of DA-Central Office’s Agricultural and Fisheries Information Division (AFID) made a field visit to and validation of Lomas-e farm.

The visit included taking video footages of Lomas-e’s actual farm site as well as conducting interviews.

Said video will be presented to the board of judges, national technical committee and GAD secretariat for the deliberation of the result of said search.

Pera said there are 9 rural women who qualified for the national search; however, only 8 nominees will be formally recognized in the awarding ceremony next month.
